The Power of Protein

The Power of Protein

We’re not going to start listing all the benefits of protein (yawn) but what we do want to talk about is the power of protein during exercise recovery. Every cell in our body needs protein to survive, it’s essential for feeding our muscles and providing us with the energy we need each day.

When our tissues and cells have worn out, protein rebuilds and replaces these cells. It restores our muscles with energy. Whether you’re a top athlete needing to recover from endurance exercise or have just smashed out a strength class, your body needs protein during recovery.

It’s been said over and over that consuming protein = stronger muscles but what recent studies have shown is that protein is essential post-exercise for muscle regrowth and build. Without it, we will simply lose muscle mass. Essential amino acids are superior to non-essential amino acids for stimulating muscle growth, they appear critical to potentiating a greater net protein synthesis over a 24 hours recovery period.
